Dominican Republic awards RD$28.8 bn contract for Autopista del Ámbar

The Dominican government, through the RD Vial trust, announced the award of the National Public Bidding for the design and construction of the Autopista del Ámbar to the Consorcio Autopista del Ámbar, S.R.L. The consortium’s economic offer amounted to RD$28.8 billion, the highest technical and financial score in the process.

The 35‑kilometre highway will link the Circunvalación Norte of Santiago with the Puerto Plata–Sosúa corridor, reducing travel time between the Cibao region and the Atlantic coast to about 30 minutes. The project is intended to improve tourism access, streamline commerce and logistics, strengthen industrial zones and free‑trade zones, and shorten agricultural product transport times.

The bidding, launched in November 2025, attracted three large consortia comprising ten national and international firms and concluded in July 2026 after eight months of transparent procedures, public consultations, and oversight by a citizen monitoring commission appointed by decree. The contract underscores the government’s commitment to strategic infrastructure development through competitive and open procurement.
