Dominican Republic banking sector sees growth in Bandex and Bladex portfolios

The Dominican Republic's banking and financial sectors are seeing significant growth and expansion. Bandex (Banco de Desarrollo y Exportación) reports a loan portfolio of RD$11,900 million and total assets of RD$22,000 million. General Manager Catalino Correa Hiciano noted that the bank has diversified its clients, including a mechanization program that has facilitated RD$3,000 million to support the agricultural and construction sectors. Additionally, the ‘Avanza Salud’ program provides financing to the healthcare sector and medical centers.

Meanwhile, the Latin American Bank of Foreign Trade (Bladex) is seeking to expand its business lines in the Dominican Republic, where its credit portfolio has grown to exceed US$1,000 million since 2022. Bladex executives met with Central Bank Governor Héctor Valdez Albizu to discuss expanding correspondent relationships in the local market. During these discussions, Valdez Albizu reported that foreign direct investment reached US$3,276.5 million in the first half of 2026, a 7.7% increase from the previous year.
