Dominican Republic and Ecuador launch social protection initiatives

In the Dominican Republic, the Cabinet of Women, Adolescents, and Girls, led by Minister Gloria Reyes, met to coordinate institutional responses regarding gender-based violence, emergency services, and legal frameworks like the Mirabal Law. Key developments include the interoperability between the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1 and the Ministry of Women’s *212 emergency line to improve coordination during violence incidents.

Additionally, the Social Policy Cabinet and the National Drug Council in Santo Domingo have signed an agreement to strengthen prevention and reintegration efforts for vulnerable communities facing substance abuse.

In Ecuador, the government of President Daniel Noboa is implementing the Intersectoral Policy for the Comprehensive Approach to Adolescent Pregnancy 2026-2035. This initiative aims to coordinate health, education, and labor ministries to provide sexual and reproductive health services and social inclusion, addressing high pregnancy rates among minors in regions such as Morona Santiago, Napo, and Esmeraldas.
