Dominican Republic calls for integrated security and economic support for Haiti

Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor Bisonó has called for an integrated approach to Haiti's stability during a United Nations meeting in New York. He emphasized that security interventions must be synchronized with institutional reconstruction and economic development to ensure long-term recovery.

Bisonó highlighted a significant shortfall in the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), noting that as of July 2026, only 1,083 officers had been deployed out of a required 5,550. He urged the international community to renew the GSF mandate and provide guaranteed funding and necessary troop contributions.

Additionally, the Dominican Republic is providing logistical support, including medical evacuations and the use of its infrastructure. Bisonó also stressed the need for economic alternatives for youth through disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration programs supported by international financial institutions.
