Dominican Republic Central Electoral Board updates overseas office procedures

The Dominican Republic Central Electoral Board (JCE) has announced changes to how its overseas offices handle citizen services. Starting November 2, the JCE will eliminate the mandatory appointment system in 18 international offices, moving to a first-come, first-served model.

In 23 other high-demand locations, the board will implement a hybrid model. This allows citizens to choose between keeping a scheduled appointment or being served via a walk-in queue. Locations utilizing the hybrid model include New York, New Jersey, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Miami, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Zurich, and Chile, among others.

The decision aims to reduce bureaucratic barriers for the Dominican diaspora and address idle capacity in various offices. The JCE is encouraging citizens living abroad to utilize these services to obtain new identity cards, which feature enhanced security standards and facilitate voting rights.
