Dominican Republic Chamber of Accounts analyzes poverty maps
The Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic (CCRD), through its National School of Accounts (ENC), held its ninth discussion titled ‘Poverty Maps of the Dominican Republic.’ The event aimed to deepen understanding of how poverty is distributed across different territories to improve the oversight of social spending.
Evalina Gómez Paulino, Director of Social Analysis at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, noted that poverty in the country is not uniform. While some areas maintain relatively low levels, other territories show incidence rates significantly higher than the national average, necessitating more focused and differentiated social policies.
Participants emphasized that statistical data is a vital tool for fiscal control, allowing authorities to compare the distribution of public resources against the specific regions where poverty is most concentrated. Juan Miguel Pérez, director of the ENC, stated that these initiatives use evidence and data to promote more effective public management and help reduce inequalities.
