Dominican Republic CNSS simplifies medical subsidy procedures

The National Council of Social Security (CNSS) has approved a modification to the regulations for Common Illness Subsidies in the Dominican Republic to simplify the application process for workers. Under Resolution No. 641-04, medical certificates will now be considered valid whether they bear the stamp of the treating physician or the health service provider where the patient received care.

To be valid, certificates must include essential information such as the physician's name, ID, signature, exequatur number, and stamp, alongside the affiliate's identification, principal diagnosis, incapacity duration, and start date.

Separately, the National Association of Social Security Affiliates (ASONAFISS) is currently evaluating proposals presented to the CNSS. ASONAFISS is seeking improvements to the Dominican Social Security System, specifically requesting an increase in annual outpatient medication coverage from RD$12,000 to RD$30,000 and the ability to carry over unused funds at the end of the year. The organization stated it is in a "compás de espera" (waiting period) for a response from authorities before deciding on potential public demonstrations.
