Dominican Republic commemorates 163rd anniversary of Battle of Arroyo Bermejo
The Permanent Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries, alongside the Ministries of Defense and Education, the Monte Plata Governorate, and the Don Juan Municipal District Mayor's Office, commemorated the 163rd anniversary of the Battle of Arroyo Bermejo. The battle took place on September 29, 1863, during the Dominican Restoration War against Spanish annexation.
The ceremony was held at the Gregorio Luperón Photographic Park in the Don Juan municipal district of Monte Plata. The event included civil and military authorities, as well as community members. The proceedings featured the raising of the national flag, the national anthem, and religious invocations.
During the ceremony, Leoncito José, Mayor of Don Juan, emphasized the importance of preserving national historical and patriotic memory. Monte Plata Governor Rafaela Javier Gomera also spoke on the significance of the event for the province and the nation. Juan Pablo Uribe, president of the Permanent Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries, highlighted the tactical intelligence and nationalist spirit of the Dominican participants, specifically noting the role of the young commander Gregorio Luperón.
