Dominican Republic commemorates 182nd anniversary of Constitution

The Dominican Republic celebrated the 182nd anniversary of the proclamation of its Constitution with several official ceremonies in San Cristóbal. Vice President Raquel Peña, acting as head of state, led a civic, military, and police parade on Constitution Avenue. The parade featured students from over 20 educational centers alongside members of the Armed Forces and the National Police.

Additionally, the Constitutional Court held a solemn hearing at the Instituto Politécnico Loyola. During the event, Constitutional Court President Napoleón R. Estévez Lavandier emphasized that the strength of a constitutional state relies on the effectiveness of mechanisms used to guarantee rights, rather than just the recognition of those rights in the Magna Carta. He noted that constitutional guarantees serve as legal instruments to ensure human dignity and prevent abuses of power.
