Dominican Republic court resumes Donald Guerrero corruption trial
The Third Court of Instruction of the National District in the Dominican Republic has resumed the trial of former Finance Minister Donald Guerrero and other defendants. The Public Ministry accuses the group of irregularities causing a loss to the Dominican state exceeding RD$19,000 million.
The prosecution alleges the defendants operated a structure to irregularly manage public resources, primarily through operations related to land expropriation payments. Additionally, the group is accused of using bribes to finance the 2020 electoral campaign and misappropriating funds intended for public institution commitments.
Charges include criminal association, embezzlement, collusion of officials, forgery of public and private documents, bribery, illicit campaign financing, and money laundering. The proceedings were previously postponed due to health issues presented by defense lawyers for Daniel Omar de Jesús Camaño Santana and Rafael Porfirio Calderón Martínez.
