Dominican Republic court sentences woman in police ammunition theft ring

Miguelina Bello Segura has been sentenced to three years in prison for her involvement in a criminal network that stole and sold National Police ammunition and equipment. The case, part of the ‘Operación Pandora’ investigation, involves the illicit sale of materials to Haitian nationals.

Following an agreement with the Public Ministry, Bello Segura admitted to the charges and agreed to collaborate with authorities. The court has suspended half of her sentence, requiring her to serve 18 months under house arrest. During the suspension period, she must adhere to several conditions, including residing at a fixed address, obtaining judicial permission to travel abroad, and refraining from carrying firearms or abusing alcohol.

The investigation revealed that the stolen munitions, valued at over RD$92 million, originated from the Police National Arms Intendancy. The legal proceedings against other members of the network, including high-ranking officers, are ongoing.
