Dominican Republic court upholds fine against Abel González Clinic

The Administrative Superior Court (TSA) has upheld a fine of RD$2,189,154.08 against the Centro de Medicina Avanzada Dr. Abel González. The penalty, originally imposed by the Superintendency of Health and Labor Risks (SISALRIL), stems from the clinic's failure to provide emergency medical care to two individuals.

The affected patients were injured during a ceiling collapse at the Jet Set nightclub. Investigations revealed that the clinic failed to guarantee emergency services, did not record the patients' visits, and incorrectly informed them that their insurance was not accepted rather than coordinating coverage with their health administrator (ARS).

The case was brought forward by the General Directorate of Information and Defense of Social Security Affiliates (DIDA), which acted on behalf of the victims. The TSA rejected the clinic's appeal, affirming the legal authority of DIDA to represent affiliates and upholding the administrative sanction issued by SISALRIL.
