Dominican Court Orders Continuation of Jean Alain Rodríguez Corruption Trial
The Second Collegiate Court of the National District in Santo Domingo ordered the continuation of the criminal trial against former prosecutor general Jean Alain Rodríguez and co‑defendants over alleged administrative corruption linked to the so‑called Medusa case. The court rejected a defense opposition to earlier rulings, declaring the resources inadmissible, and moved the hearing from the morning to the afternoon. A subsequent request by the defense to postpone the session on health grounds was denied for lack of documentation. The trial has been rescheduled for Monday, 27 July, at 09:00.
Prosecutor adjoint Wilson Camacho warned that Rodríguez is trying to evade the process, stating, “He knows he will be confronted with the evidence the Ministry of Public has.” The judges Claribel Nivar, Clara Castillo and Yissell Soto preside. The defense has also asked the court to extinguish the criminal action, arguing the case exceeds the four‑year statutory limit after a six‑year duration. The prosecution alleges misappropriation of over RD 6 billion, with charges of bribery, embezzlement, fraud and money‑laundering.
The court will decide on the pending defense resources during the upcoming session, after which the substantive phase of the trial is expected to proceed.
