Dominican Republic Declared Zero Hunger by FAO

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced that the Dominican Republic has lowered the prevalence of undernourishment to below the international 2.5 % threshold, qualifying the country for a zero‑hunger status. FAO Director‑General Qu Dongyu made the declaration, citing recent improvements in agricultural and livestock production.

Dominican President Luis Abinader and presidential minister José Ignacio Paliza highlighted government measures such as the Bono Gas, Bono Luz, Aliméntate, school feeding programmes and economic subsidies that they say contributed to the achievement. Paliza also referenced rising average wages as an indicator of economic growth.
