Dominican Republic deputies seek law to protect people with multiple disabilities

A special commission of the Dominican Republic's Chamber of Deputies is working to advance a bill aimed at protecting individuals with multiple disabilities. The legislative initiative seeks to provide comprehensive care, addressing critical needs in education, health, and human services for hundreds of families.

During a visit to the National Center for Deafblindness and Multiple Disabilities, officials discussed the challenges faced by families, including the high cost of medications and medical studies that are not fully covered by subsidized insurance. The center, which serves children from 45 days old to 24 years of age, is the only integral education facility of its kind in the country. Legislators expressed a commitment to ensuring the law provides necessary responses to these vulnerable populations.
