Dominican Republic deputy proposes social security reform
Deputy Rogelio Alfonso Genao Lanza has submitted a bill to the Dominican Republic Chamber of Deputies to reform the Organic Law of the Dominican Social Security System. The proposal aims to increase worker pensions to an equivalent of 60% to 70% of their salaries.
To fund this, the project mandates a gradual increase in joint contributions for pension and health insurance, rising from the current 20.10% to 29.01% of salarial bases. Specifically, employer contributions would rise from 14.19% to 19.08%, while worker contributions would increase from 5.91% to 9.93%.
The reform includes a double economic obligation for employers in both the private and public sectors: they must pay higher social security contributions and are required to grant salary increases to employees equivalent to the increase in the employees' contribution rates.
