Dominican Republic rolls out Bono a Mil incentive and expands school classrooms while boosting STEM education

The Ministry of Education (MINERD) has opened an online portal for families to consult and register for the Bono a Mil 2026‑2027 program. The one‑time payment of RD $1,000 per public‑school student will reach 948,762 parents or guardians, covering 1,394,482 students in the initial, primary and secondary levels. Registration requires the national ID, a mobile phone number and the student’s school ID; beneficiaries receive a Banreservas code to withdraw the funds.

The government’s Aulas 24/7‑365 plan is accelerating construction of new classrooms across the country. Projects in San Marcos (Puerto Plata) and Valverde aim to add more than 1,500 modern classrooms before the 2026‑2027 school year, providing space for over 100 new early‑education students in San Marcos and dozens of modular units throughout Valverde.

Separately, the Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (Indotel) recognized over 170 students from 25 provinces in the “Buscamos el Talento del Futuro” STEM contest, awarding laptops and highlighting the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. The Institute of Dominicans Abroad (Index) signed a partnership with the World Literacy Organization (WLO) to give the Dominican diaspora access to discounted international academic programs. In higher education, the Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA) and the Italian Embassy agreed to cooperate on technology‑focused training, scholarships and joint research.
