Dominican Republic Education Ministry Moves Forward with Teacher Incentives and National Exams

The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) announced that payments of incentives and retroactive amounts linked to the 2025‑2026 Teacher Performance Evaluation will be processed after the 15‑day period for teachers to lodge objections ends. Cases under review will be examined within a 45‑day window, allowing the ministry to release funds to the majority of the more than 110,000 teachers whose results are final.

The teachers’ union, the Asociación Dominicana de Profesores (ADP), urged the ministry to avoid any further delay, calling the waiting period a “dilatory tactic” and demanding an immediate payment schedule for those with confirmed scores.

In parallel, MINERD issued a second call for the 2026 National Exams, scheduling the tests for 28,000 secondary and adult‑education students from 6‑9 August across 270 centers nationwide. The ministry also requested details on the location of 1,000 new classrooms slated for the 2026‑2027 school year.

Education Minister Rafael Santos Badía of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) criticized the practice of promoting students without mastery of basic skills, describing it as a “disparage” and pledging reforms to strengthen foundational learning.
