Adán Cáceres Silvestre's appeal to dismiss corruption charges rejected by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) in the Dominican Republic has declared inadmissible a cassation appeal filed by Army Major General Adán Cáceres Silvestre. The appeal sought to extinguish the criminal action in a case involving administrative corruption.

Cáceres Silvestre, the former head of the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep), has been prosecuted following the Coral and Coral 5G operations. This ruling marks the fifth time his attempts to have the criminal proceedings dismissed have been rejected across different judicial instances.

The court's decision follows a petition from the Public Ministry, which argued that the legal requirements for dismissing the case were not met. Previous attempts by the defense were rejected by the First Collegiate Court of the National District and the Second Penal Chamber of the Court of Appeals, both of which ruled that the time elapsed in the proceedings was reasonable given the nature of the case.
