Dominican Republic electricity firms plan upgrades, causing outages and investing over RD 518 million

The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (Edeeste) announced that on Monday it will temporarily suspend electricity to more than 40 sectors of Santo Domingo Este between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as part of technical work on circuit INVI03. The operation will shift load between the Simón Orozco and San Isidro reclosers, aiming to reduce the circuit’s load by roughly 40 %. Affected neighborhoods include Invivienda, Los Trinitarios, Villa Carmen, Prado Oriental, Mirador del Este, Nuevo Amanecer, Brisa del Este, among many others.

Separately, Edesur Dominican will invest RD 518,630,545 to repower 17 substations across the country. The program, part of its long‑term expansion plan, will benefit about 471,000 users in the Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo Oeste, Pedro Brand, San Cristóbal, Peravia, El ías Piña, Barahona, Azua, San José de Ocoa, Pedernales and other municipalities. Earlier in 2026 the company completed nine substation upgrades with investments ranging from RD 9.2 million to RD 95.3 million. The upgrades are intended to improve reliability, increase capacity and support commercial, industrial and tourism development in the serviced areas.
