Colonel Erdwin R. Olivares Luciano, director of the Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE), met with geologist and professor Osiris de León to discuss the nation’s seismic situation and risk scenarios.
During the meeting, Olivares Luciano emphasized the necessity for every family to maintain an emergency plan, which includes knowing evacuation routes, identifying safe locations, and securing basic supplies for the initial hours following an earthquake.
The COE presented strategic guidelines from the National Contingency Plan for Earthquakes, aimed at improving inter-institutional coordination and response capacity for high-magnitude events. The director stressed that earthquake preparedness is a shared responsibility requiring active involvement from the private sector, public institutions, local governments, and community organizations.
