Dominican Republic implements energy storage to stabilize power grid

The Dominican Republic is advancing energy infrastructure projects to enhance the stability and resilience of its National Interconnected Electric System (SENI). The Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica Dominicana (ETED) is promoting investment in large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). According to ETED Executive Vice President Alfonso Rodríguez Tejada, these technologies will provide technical optimizations such as frequency regulation and “black start” capability, allowing the system to restart from scratch following a general interruption.

In addition to national-level storage initiatives, regional infrastructure improvements are underway. Edenorte has completed the installation of a 37 MVA power transformer at the Samaná Substation to meet growing energy demands. Meanwhile, Edeeste has scheduled technical maintenance and network interventions in various sectors of Santo Domingo Este, which will involve temporary power interruptions to strengthen the local electrical grid.
