Dominican Republic enters astronomical autumn

The astronomical autumn begins in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, September 22, marked by the equinox occurring around 8:05 p.m. This transition will result in progressively shorter daylight hours, with sunrises occurring later and sunsets arriving earlier.

Meteorologist Jean Suriel noted that despite the change in season, high temperatures are expected to persist due to the country’s tropical location and atmospheric conditions. Additionally, the El Niño phenomenon is strengthening, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicting high intensity during the autumn and winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Regarding solar exposure, scientific communicator Manuel Grullón stated that ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the Dominican Republic is most intense near midday. He emphasized that UV levels remain significant throughout the year, including during winter, as lower temperatures only reduce the thermal sensation rather than the actual amount of radiation reaching the surface.
