Dominican Republic evaluates Supreme Court judges, hosts accountability conference

The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) convened a meeting in Santo Domingo to begin the performance evaluation of eleven judges of the Dominican Supreme Court of Justice who have completed seven years in office. The session, called by President Luis Abinader, will set the work schedule for the assessments. Notably, former Supreme Court president Jorge Subero Isa returned as the CNM’s legal adviser and spokesperson, while sitting Supreme Court president Luis Henry Molina will be one of the judges evaluated.

Separately, the Dominican and Puerto Rican judiciaries, together with the Central American and Caribbean Judicial Council, held a virtual conference on participatory accountability. The forum highlighted the use of technology—such as the portal justicia.gob.do—to increase transparency, allow real‑time tracking of cases, and involve citizens in the justice system. Speakers included magistrates Samuel Arias Arzeno, Bernabel Moricete, and officials from both jurisdictions who stressed the link between judicial independence and open accountability.
