Dominican Republic Executive reviews new gambling regulation law

The Dominican Republic's Executive Branch has yet to announce whether it will promulgate or issue observations regarding a new gambling regulation law. The project was approved by the Senate on September 16 and has been awaiting a decision for approximately twelve days.

Ricardo Nadal, president of the National Association of Sports Betting (Asonabade), has formally petitioned the Executive Branch to review the bill before President Luis Abinader signs it. Asonabade argues that the current version contains modifications not present in the original proposal, alleging that certain provisions favor wealthy groups seeking to create a monopoly.

Specific concerns raised by the association include regulations regarding horse racing betting, gambling addiction, limits on betting shops, and the proliferation of gaming points. The association is also calling for a review of the licensing revocation processes and the tax regime for virtual horse racing games.
