Dominican Republic expands cruise and logistics infrastructure
The Dominican Republic is advancing significant maritime and logistics infrastructure projects to bolster its position as a regional investment hub. Alejandro Campos, CEO of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), stated during a logistics panel in Spain that the country’s political, social, and economic stability, combined with its strategic Caribbean location, makes it an ideal destination for global supply chain investment.
Key developments include the upcoming opening of the Port Samaná cruise terminal in Arroyo Barril, scheduled for November 24, 2026. Developed through a public-private partnership with the ITM Group, the terminal is projected to welcome 230,000 visitors in 2027, growing to an estimated one million annual visitors by 2030.
Other major port projects include DP World’s expansion of the Caucedo terminal capacity from 2.5 to 3.1 million TEUs. These initiatives aim to support the fact that 90 percent of the country’s cargo and merchandise, including transshipment operations, passes through Dominican ports.
