Dominican Republic faces cultural and social crisis

The Dominican Republic is facing a profound social and cultural crisis characterized by a loss of national identity, critical thinking, and civic values. This decline is attributed to a deteriorating educational system and a disconnect between the State and its ideological apparatus. The erosion of formal culture in favor of consumerism has weakened social cohesion and increased social violence.

Structural deficiencies in public policy, including inequitable access to arts education and cultural management in the provinces, further exacerbate the issue. Specifically, the San Cristóbal province and municipality, once known for their cultural richness, have seen a significant decline in identity and citizen participation.

Parallel to this cultural decay is a growing sense of state indifference and political apathy. The transition to democracy has, in many ways, replaced past authoritarianism with a system driven by political opportunism and clientelism. Rather than fostering true leadership, the current party system is described as a machinery focused on electoral simulation and economic loyalty rather than the common good, leaving citizens to face increasing inequality and precarious living conditions.
