Regional reports highlight electoral trends and social challenges

Various regional reports highlight shifts in electoral participation and social indicators. In Argentina, despite the potential impact of over 1.6 million eligible voters living abroad, actual participation remains below 3% due to low awareness and previous restrictions on postal voting, though the Law of Single Paper Ballot aims to facilitate in-person and mail-in voting.

In the Dominican Republic, electoral abstention has risen, exceeding 55% in the 2024 elections. This trend is attributed to a perceived lack of ideological differences between major parties and growing public distrust. Simultaneously, the country faces a record school dropout rate for the 2024-2025 academic year, with 130,980 students leaving the system, representing a 4.74% rate. This educational crisis is estimated to cost the state over 18 billion pesos.

In Spain, the Electoral Census Office confirmed that voters residing abroad determine their specific municipality for registration. This follows inquiries regarding the ‘Law of Grandchildren,’ which allows descendants of Spanish exiles to seek nationality and choose their voting location based on specific residency or connection criteria.
