Dominican Republic focuses on digital transformation and industrial growth
In the Dominican Republic, efforts are intensifying to bolster digital security and industrial productivity. APEC is leading digital transformation initiatives by integrating cybersecurity education with human development. This includes training for students and faculty to mitigate risks such as phishing, identity theft, and malware. The importance of these measures was highlighted by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic’s successful security update of its Real-Time Gross Settlement (LBTR) platform, which protects financial flows equivalent to multiple times the nation's GDP.
Simultaneously, the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) is calling for economic growth to be converted into productive transformation. AIRD President Julio Virgilio Brache emphasized the need to strengthen national industry, expand business linkages, and increase value addition. To achieve this, Brache identified four pillars: reliable and competitive energy, talent training aligned with industrial needs, increased productivity through technology, and improved conditions for business and labor formality. The initiative seeks to better integrate local industry with free trade zones and export activities.
