Dominican Republic fuel quality concerns reported by vehicle owners
Vehicle owners and mechanical workshop operators in the Dominican Republic have raised concerns regarding the potential adulteration of fuel sold at stations in Santo Domingo and other regions.
Reports indicate a significant increase in vehicles experiencing damage to oxygen sensors, injectors, and engines. Mechanics note that these issues affect all brands, including recently imported vehicles. Some workshop owners have observed similar patterns following substantial increases in fuel prices.
Complainants are calling on the Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (PROCONSUMIDOR), the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), and the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (REFIDOMSA) to launch immediate investigations and conduct laboratory analyses to verify fuel quality.
