Dominican Republic honors legacies of Rafelo Peña and Hatuey De Camps

The Dominican Republic observes the legacies of two notable figures. Rafelo Peña, a surveyor and owner of the Alfonso Peña gallera, has passed away. He was recognized in the Mao and Valverde regions for his humanitarian work, social activism, and commitment to democratic principles and national sovereignty.

Separately, the tenth anniversary of the death of Hatuey De Camps Jiménez is being marked. A prominent and controversial figure in contemporary Dominican politics, De Camps was a lifelong activist who began his career as a student leader. He was a key collaborator and strategist for José Francisco Peña Gómez following the 1973 division of the Dominican Revolutionary Party.
