Dominican Republic hospitals face renovation and hygiene challenges

Healthcare facilities in the Dominican Republic are facing contrasting situations regarding infrastructure and hygiene. At the Salvador Bienvenido Gautier University Teaching Hospital, comprehensive remodeling work has begun, starting with the emergency area. Patients and their families have expressed optimism about the renovations, noting that while the medical staff is highly prepared and efficient, improved facilities and better hygiene are essential for adequate care.

In contrast, the new Ramón Matías Mella Provincial Hospital in Dajabón is facing criticism from patients' families over hygiene concerns. Relatives have reported a lack of cleaning staff, claiming they have had to clean hospital rooms themselves to ensure a sanitary environment for hospitalized patients. Residents in Dajabón have called for the National Health Service (SNS) to intervene and increase cleaning personnel to guarantee safe and dignified conditions.
