Dominican Republic implements facial recognition in Dajabón

The Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Migration (DGM) is implementing a new facial recognition system in Dajabón to enhance border controls at binational market access points. The technology will allow for the capture and verification of biometric data, including facial images and fingerprints, to validate identities and facilitate the identification of previously registered individuals.

In addition to facial recognition, the system will incorporate video surveillance and image analysis tools to support identification efforts and generate alerts for authorities. The DGM is also developing an updated E-Ticket system featuring facial recognition and a project for E-Gates to automate parts of the migratory process.

In related enforcement activities, the DGM reported detecting 22 travelers with active migration alerts—linked to Interpol and judicial requests—at various national air terminals between August 14 and 20. During the same period, authorities identified 10 cases of fraudulent documentation, including forged visas and altered passports, at airports and the Dajabón border crossing.
