Dominican Republic launches University Sports Games and new sports movement
In the Dominican Republic, two major sporting developments have been announced. Vice President Raquel Peña and Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz officially inaugurated the 2026 University Sports Games. The event features over 2,300 athletes from 23 universities competing across 16 disciplines, including athletics, basketball, baseball, swimming, and volleyball. The competition aims to strengthen the link between higher education and athletic development.
Separately, sports leader Alberto Rodríguez has launched a national sports structure to support the presidential project of David Collado. This movement integrates athletes, coaches, and officials to unify the sector and advocate for modernization and better resources for sports associations and federations across the country's provinces and municipalities.
