Higüey Basilica infrastructure project inaugurated by Ministry of Tourism

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism has inaugurated a series of infrastructure improvements surrounding the Basilica Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia in Higüey. The project, representing an investment of RD$25,580,511, focuses on enhancing religious tourism and improving public spaces for pilgrims and locals.

The works included the reconstruction of 505 square meters of sidewalks and curbs, divided between the north and south sides of the site. Additional improvements feature cobblestone sidewalks, a pedestrian crossing at the main entrance, concrete paving, and the installation of accessibility ramps. To enhance the urban landscape, the project also incorporated planters, street lighting, and urban reforestation using native species such as guáyiga and royal palms.

Tourism Minister David Collado noted that these enhancements aim to beautify the area and facilitate better mobility for visitors. He further highlighted that total infrastructure investments managed by the Ministry in the La Altagracia province have exceeded RD$1,646 million, including projects such as the Bulevar de la Peregrinación and various road improvements in Verón, Macao, and Bayahíbe.
