Dominican Republic journalist demands publication of state audits
Journalist Hansel García has publicly called on the Comptroller General of the Dominican Republic, Geraldo Espinosa, to immediately resume the publication of state audits conducted on government institutions.
Reports indicate that approximately 390 completed audits of various state entities remain unpublished. García argues that withholding these reports contradicts the transparency policies promoted by the current administration. While the Comptroller General has justified the non-publication by stating that current legislation does not strictly mandate the release of these documents, García has announced a symbolic daily protest to pressure the official for the release of the reports or his removal from office.
This development follows a 2023 directive from President Luis Abinader, which instructed the previous Comptroller to upload all audits to a public institutional portal to facilitate citizen oversight.
