Dominican Republic Judiciary leads in Open Justice Metric
The Judiciary of the Dominican Republic has achieved the highest level of institutional openness among 21 evaluated entities according to the Open Justice Metric of the Dominican Republic (MJA-RD). The Judiciary received a general score of 0.88 out of 1.
Developed by the World Justice Project (WJP) with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Dominican Judiciary, the metric establishes a baseline for the justice ecosystem. This includes the Public Ministry, the National Office of Public Defense, and the Ombudsman. The study evaluates institutional offerings through 73 indicators in central institutions and 23 in local offices, focusing on four key dimensions: transparency, accountability, participation, and collaboration.
Ana María Díaz, the UNDP resident representative, stated that the metric serves as an evidence-based tool to identify progress and opportunities for improvement, aiming to ensure justice responds effectively to citizen needs. The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16, which promotes peaceful and inclusive societies.
