Dominican Republic labor market shows rise in remote work and wage disparities
Recent data regarding the Dominican Republic's labor market highlights shifting corporate benefits and age-based wage disparities. According to the VIII Social Benefits Survey 2026 by Macros Consulting, 50% of surveyed companies have implemented 'emotional salary' programs—focusing on wellbeing, recognition, and personal development—and 50% offer remote work options.
Other notable benefits reported include supplemental medical insurance (90%), life insurance (68%), and bonuses (58%). The study also emphasizes the emerging concept of a 'living wage' as a metric for employee dignity.
Statistics from the Social Security Treasury (TSS) reveal a gap in earnings based on age and nationality. Dominican workers typically reach their peak salary between the ages of 31 and 55, with an average of 44,235.5 pesos in June. However, after age 55, local wages tend to decline. In contrast, foreign workers in the country see their highest earnings after age 55, averaging 88,598.93 pesos, which is double the amount earned by Dominican nationals in the same age bracket.
