Dominican Republic launches 10,000 scholarships for higher education

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) has launched a program to award 10,000 scholarships to young citizens. The initiative includes 5,000 National Scholarships and 5,000 'Excellence Without Barriers 2026' scholarships aimed at promoting academic merit and expanding access to higher education.

Vice President Raquel Peña and Minister Rafael Santos Badía led the commencement of the distribution. The program focuses on strategic disciplines such as science, technology, mathematics, physics, agronomy, and the orange economy.

A key feature of this cycle is the unprecedented coordination between the Ministry of Education and MESCyT. This collaboration allowed for the identification and referral of 948 high-achieving high school graduates—noted for excellence in STEM, robotics, academic olympiads, arts, and sports—to ensure they can transition directly into higher education opportunities.
