Dominican Republic launches cardiac microcirculation diagnostic program

The Dominican Republic has launched its first national program dedicated to the advanced evaluation of cardiac microcirculation. Led by interventional cardiologist Pedro Ureña at the Moderno-MCA unit, the project utilizes technology designed to study the small vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle.

This diagnostic approach addresses cases where traditional catheterization and imaging, such as angiotomography, fail to identify obstructions in the large coronary arteries despite persistent symptoms. Medical data suggests that microcirculation dysfunction may account for more than 40% of symptoms in patients whose primary arteries appear normal.
