Dominican Republic launches electronic passports for diaspora in US

President Luis Abinader has launched the international rollout of the Dominican Republic’s new electronic passport, beginning with the Dominican diaspora in New York, New Jersey, and Boston. The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the General Directorate of Passports.

The new travel document features advanced biometric technology and includes more than 130 security measures to meet international civil aviation standards. Additionally, the passport provides a social protection benefit in the form of repatriation insurance for human remains, with coverage of up to US$9,000.

This deployment occurs as part of the President's official agenda in the United States ahead of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The technical infrastructure is also designed to support the future implementation of Digital Travel Credentials (DTC) on mobile devices.
