Dominican Republic launches RD$35 integrated fare for Metro, Teleférico and buses

Starting Saturday July 11, the Santo Domingo public‑transport system began charging a single integrated fare of RD$35 for up to 90 minutes. The ticket covers the Metro, the Teleférico and the OMSA bus corridors, allowing passengers to transfer between the three modes without additional payment. The fare is collected electronically through the Metro card, the SD Go app or bank cards; cash payments remain available on buses for users without cards. Officials say the new scheme can save riders up to RD$25 per trip and reduces the average travel cost by about 40 %, benefiting roughly 400 000 daily commuters. The measure is part of President Luis Abinader’s urban‑mobility plan aimed at lowering transport expenses and encouraging public‑transport use over private vehicles.
