Dominican Republic launches Student of the Week initiative
The Presidency of the Dominican Republic, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, has launched the ‘Estudiante de la Semana’ (Student of the Week) initiative. The program aims to recognize and highlight the talent, effort, perseverance, and contributions of students within the Dominican educational system.
According to the Ministry of Education, the recognition is not strictly limited to academic grades. It also encompasses qualities such as leadership, creativity, innovation, community commitment, and the ability to generate a positive impact on schools or local communities.
The first two students selected for the program are Enmy Carolina Ureña Abreu, 17, and Hillary Albania Bonilla Mendoza, 10. Ureña Abreu, from the Politécnico José Núñez de Cáceres in Villa Altagracia, was recognized for her community work in road safety education. Bonilla Mendoza, from the Los Cayucos educational center in Mao, was honored for her outstanding performance in the VI National Social Sciences Olympiad, where she achieved a score of 96.67 points.
