Dominican Republic health authorities intensify dengue prevention efforts

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Public Health has intensified its efforts to combat dengue through the national campaign ‘Ganémosle al Dengue’ (Let's Beat Dengue). Under the slogan ‘Elimina, Limpia y Tapa’ (Eliminate, Clean, and Cover), health authorities are conducting intensive fumigation, vector control, and community awareness sessions to reduce the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Health Minister Víctor Atallah has urged citizens to take an active role in prevention by inspecting yards and surroundings for potential breeding sites, such as tires, cans, and bottles. Authorities recommend cleaning water storage tanks periodically and applying chlorine to their internal walls to prevent mosquito larvae from developing. To date, the ministry has intervened in over 6,000 sectors and 502,228 homes, reaching more than 1.1 million people. While the country has seen a significant reduction in cases compared to previous years, continuous surveillance remains a priority.

In other regional news, the Dominican telecommunications market is facing potential disruption with the entry of Vietnamese firm Viettel, which has secured spectrum and plans a US$560 million investment in infrastructure. Additionally, the country has been recognized by SISAP for leading the region in cyber resilience.
