Dominican Republic Medical College suspends strike for dialogue
The Dominican Medical College (CMD) has suspended a planned 24-hour national strike and a march scheduled for November 11. This decision follows an invitation from President Luis Abinader to hold a meeting next Thursday at 3:00 p.m. to discuss the sector's demands.
CMD President Luis Alberto Peña Núñez stated that the negotiations aim to reach a pact benefiting both medical professionals and the public. The discussions are expected to involve various ministries and government institutions, as the grievances cover a wide range of issues.
Key demands include seniority incentives, increased remuneration for in-person shifts, and improvements to hospital infrastructure, specifically citing the Juan Pablo Pina and Padre Billini hospitals. The group also raised concerns regarding medical unemployment and sanitary services in several provinces, including Santiago Rodríguez, Puerto Plata, and La Romana.
