Dominican Republic Migration Directorate clarifies exit ban protocols

The Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Migration (DGM) clarified that its inspectors only prevent individuals from leaving the country via aircraft, vessels, or formal border crossings when a formal judicial order has been issued. The institution emphasized that such exit bans are placed and lifted exclusively by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) through established legal channels.

This statement follows social media allegations regarding an individual being detained at an international flight. The DGM responded that it does not execute detentions arbitrarily or on its own initiative; rather, it applies controls based on requirements and dispositions issued by the PGR and state security agencies. When a person with an exit ban is detected at a control point, they must be detained and the Public Ministry notified to receive instructions on how to proceed.
