Dominican Republic National Police report 318 voluntary surrenders
The Dominican Republic National Police reported that 318 individuals wanted for various crimes voluntarily surrendered to authorities between August 17 and October 21, 2026.
Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira explained that the process begins once a competent court issues an arrest warrant. Individuals may present themselves at any police station independently or accompanied by family members, lawyers, religious representatives, or human rights advocates.
Statistics show that robbery and assault were the primary reasons for the warrants, accounting for 76 cases (23.9% of the total), followed closely by homicide with 75 cases. Pesqueira noted that while surrendering a firearm is not mandatory, failing to turn over a weapon used in a homicide can hinder investigative efforts. The National Police continues to coordinate with the Public Ministry to follow up on judicial processes following these surrenders.
