Dominican Republic opens new labor office in Santo Domingo Este
The Dominican Republic’s Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares Ortega, inaugurated a new Local Labor Representation office in Santo Domingo Este. Located near the Ramón Oviedo Culture Stop and Parque del Este, the facility aims to expand access to labor services, including guidance, mediation, and conflict resolution between employees and employers.
During the opening, Minister Ortega emphasized the necessity of providing dignified and respectful service to citizens, stating that the needs of the public must be the priority for civil servants. He urged staff to maintain a vocation of service and respect when handling matters regarding labor rights, duties, and legal compliance.
Ortega also noted that the Dominican Republic currently holds high international prestige regarding labor standards. According to the 2026 Global Rights Index by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the country is ranked second in the Americas, surpassed only by Uruguay. He noted that these indicators, published by the International Labour Organization (ILO), are supported by the effective functioning of local labor representations.
