Dominican PLD rallies in Santiago, pledges 2028 election win

Abel Martínez, the PLD presidential hopeful, addressed a crowd of hundreds in Santiago’s Ensanche Bermúdez, declaring that the nation’s current hardships – insecurity, high living costs and other grievances under the PRM government – will end in 2028 when the PLD takes power. He invoked Santiago’s historic role in the Battle of 30 March and the Restoration War, urging the city’s “spirit of character” to drive the country forward.

Martínez’s speech was accompanied by numerous party officials, including deputies Mayobanex Martínez and Bray Vargas, and members of the PLD central committee. Similar rallies across the province emphasized the PLD’s promise to restore stability, improve living standards, and honour the legacy of Dominican sovereignty.

In Madrid, PLD political committee member Francisco Javier García reaffirmed the party’s confidence that he will assume the presidency on 16 August 2028. He announced plans to support the Dominican diaspora with a special fund and a sovereign guarantee of more than 22 billion pesos for business ventures, citing remittances of over 6.2 billion USD as vital to the economy.

Together, these events illustrate the PLD’s coordinated campaign to reclaim national leadership in the 2028 presidential election.
