Dominican Republic police clashes leave 98 dead
Between September 1 and October 25, at least 98 people were killed during reported exchanges of gunfire involving the Dominican Republic Police. The fatalities included 55 deaths in the first month and 43 in the second.
Families of the deceased have raised allegations of extrajudicial killings. In one instance in Mendoza, Santo Domingo Este, relatives of 16-year-old twins Randy Omar and Omar Randy Borges Jiménez claim the youths were killed inside their home during a police intervention.
While the police reported several officers were wounded during these operations, including Major Andrés Pascual and SWAT Corporal Rafael Gómez, the results of investigations by the Public Ministry remain undisclosed. The Attorney General's Office has declined to provide specific information, citing the confidentiality of criminal investigations and personal data protection.
